# Invalid access token

The OAuth access token used for your request has expired, or Paddle couldn't verify it.

---

## Example

```json
{
  "error": {
    "type": "request_error",
    "code": "invalid_access_token",
    "detail": "Access token is expired or invalid.",
    "documentation_url": "https://developer.paddle.com/errors/shared/invalid_access_token"
  },
  "meta": {
    "request_id": "00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000"
  }
}
```

## Details

| Attribute | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Status code | 401 |
| Error code | `invalid_access_token` |
| Error message | Access token is expired or invalid. |

## Common causes

- The access token has expired. OAuth access tokens are short-lived.
- The access token wasn't issued by Paddle, or it was changed after it was issued.

## Common solutions

- Get a new access token using your refresh token or client credentials, then retry the request.
- If you can't get a new access token, ask the user to reconnect their Paddle account to your app.
