We're updating express checkout to present more one-click payment methods on checkouts you prefill.
From October, express checkouts present up to four one-click payment methods, not only Apple Pay and Google Pay, giving customers more ways to pay in one click.
Paddle chooses the most relevant one-click options based on each customer's location and device, so other payment methods may appear before Apple Pay and Google Pay.
This change only applies to checkouts that you prefill. If you don't pass customer details when opening a checkout, customers continue seeing the express checkout as they do today.
You can preview the new experience in your sandbox account now before it goes live in production in October.
How it works
Express checkout is designed for optimum mobile conversion. It prioritizes one-click payment methods to create a faster and more relevant checkout experience for customers.
Behind the scenes, Paddle uses the customer's email address and country to work out which payment methods can complete in one click. Apple Pay and Google Pay always qualify as one-click options. Other payment methods can qualify as one-click when you prefill the checkout with customer email and country.
All other one-click and regular payment methods appear in a standard form below the express checkout component. You can choose to only present the one-click options by setting showNonExpressPaymentMethods to false in checkout settings.
There are no other behavior changes to express checkout.
Next steps
If you already integrated express checkout, no changes are required to enable this update. Customers automatically experience the improved express checkout from October.
