Embedded billing

Use Paddle as the merchant of record for your platform, adding native billing and payments to your platform.

Embedded billing with Paddle lets you offer billing and payments as a native feature of your platform without the complexity of managing payments, taxes, subscription billing compliance, and buyer support.

It lets you plug into the merchant of record foundations of Paddle, letting your users monetize quickly and easily. Checkout, subscriptions, global tax compliance, metrics, fraud protection, and retention tooling all come as standard for your users.

It's especially suited for AI builder platforms, like Lovable, that want to offer users an easy way to monetize their apps.

Why embed Paddle billing

Paddle handles the hard parts of selling globally for both you and your users:

  • The world's leading merchant of record.
Paddle is the merchant of record for your users, taking on global sales tax registration, calculation, and remittance, plus PCI scope, refunds, and chargebacks. Your users don't register for tax in the markets they sell into, and neither do you.
  • Global reach and compliance built-in.
Onboard users from 200+ countries and regions, with full support for local payment methods they expect, so your users can sell worldwide from day one. Paddle handles compliance with changing regulations around subscription billing and checkouts for you.
  • One integration, every seller.
Build once against the partner API and onboard unlimited sellers. You don't run payment licensing, money movement, or compliance infrastructure yourself. Paddle verifies sellers (KYB/KYC) and pays them out.
  • Your users monetize fast.
Building a Paddle integration is optimized for AI, so you can build it reliably and repeatably for your users. You don't have to wire up disparate payment processors, tax compliance, or subscription billing stacks.
  • Billing and payments as a native feature of your platform
You get full access to the same APIs that we use at Paddle for onboarding, verifying, and managing sellers, so you can build a fully native experience. There's no bouncing between your product and third-party surfaces.
  • Everything you need through one unified API.
As well as checkout and payments, Paddle comes with a full subscription billing engine, automated failed-payment recovery, invoicing, and customer support as standard.
  • Direct connection with the Paddle team.
With over a decade of experience as a trusted brand in the merchant of record space, Paddle has the expertise to help you build a successful embedded billing solution.

User journey

Seller onboarding

Your users onboard to Paddle as a seller from your platform. Your user interface or platform agent handles collecting the required seller information and configuring their account.

Users don't need to log in to the Paddle dashboard or interact with Paddle directly.

Build the seller integration

Your platform agent builds an integration for your users' apps, handling the checkout, customer portal, and provisioning of their apps.

Paddle is optimized for AI development (see our LLM benchmark), and our agent skills can help you build integrations reliably and repeatably for your users.

Go-live

Your platform agent registers a checkout domain for your users' apps, starts verification in Paddle, and takes them live.

Verification is handled by the @paddle/partner-embeds library, which you can use to scaffold the integration for your users.

Ongoing integration

Your platform has a dashboard for your users to manage their Paddle account, including their revenue metrics and one-click access to the Paddle dashboard.

Your platform agent can also answer users' questions about their revenue data, and help them troubleshoot issues.

Next steps

Read the get started guide to learn how to add embedded billing to your platform. It walks you through the process of making your first call to the partner API and how integration works at a high level.

You'll need to join the partner program to get access to the partner API and agent skills. If you're not a partner yet, fill out the form on the get started page or any page with a partner program icon.

The Paddle team will unlock the docs for you, and give you access to the partner API and developer tooling.
