Alipay (Early Access)
Alipay is used by over a billion people, including 81% of Chinese consumers. Which means that for software companies selling into the region, it’s a must-have payment option.
As a digital wallet, Alipay makes it easy and safe for customers to pay online with their connected credit and debit cards. When Paddle’s Checkout detects customers purchasing from China, we display Alipay as a payment option. After selecting Alipay, they can then confirm the payment by scanning the QR code that appears, verifying the payment.
We would recommend all software sellers who offer products for one-time purchase to request Alipay through Paddle. Some software sellers have seen their Chinese sales double after enabling Alipay.
How to enable Alipay
Alipay is currently in Early Access. This means that it is only currently available to some software sellers through Paddle based on a series of criteria, outlined below.
Early Access Criteria
We can only enable Alipay in the following instances:
- Currently Alipay is only applicable to one-time payments, not subscription payments.
- Those one-time products must be sold in CNY.
- Products must also confirm with Alipay’s restricted product list.
Once we have validated your eligibility via the above form, you will be able to enable Alipay from Checkout Settings in your Paddle Dashboard.
