Settings

Settings hold how your Paddle account is configured, including sales tax, balance currency, currency conversion, statement descriptor, and checkout settings like your default payment link and payment methods.

Settings control how your Paddle account is configured. They're the same settings that you manage in the Paddle dashboard, so you can script account setup, or ask an AI agent connected to the Paddle MCP server to do it for you.

Settings entities hold information like:

  • How tax applies to prices by default.
  • The currency that Paddle holds your balance in and pays you out from.
  • Which currencies Paddle automatically converts prices into for customers.
  • The name that appears on customer bank and card statements.
  • Your default payment link, which Paddle uses to open checkouts.
  • Which payment methods are turned on at checkout.
  • Optional checkout features, like discount codes, marketing consent, and saved payment methods.
  • The brand color for overlay checkout.
  • Whether Paddle sends checkout recovery emails, and the discount that they offer.

Each group of settings has an operation to get it and an operation to update it. Updates are partial, so send only the fields that you want to change. Each group has read and write permissions. Checkout settings share one pair: checkout_settings.read and checkout_settings.write cover the default payment link, payment methods, checkout features, overlay checkout styles, and checkout recovery.

Settings apply to the account you're authenticated as. Your sandbox and live accounts have separate settings, so configure your live account too when you go live. The go-live checklist covers the ones to set before you go live: your default payment link, payment methods, sales tax setting, and balance currency.

In live accounts, your default payment link must be on an approved checkout domain. You can't submit a domain for approval using the API. Submit it in Paddle > My account > Settings > Website approval, then set your default payment link once it's approved.
