Checkout styles

The checkout style entity holds how inline checkout and hosted checkouts look for your account, with settings shared by light and dark mode plus separate colors for each mode.

Checkout styles control how inline checkout and hosted checkouts look for your account. They're the same styles that you manage in the Paddle dashboard under Paddle > Checkout > Checkout configuration in the Styling tab.

Checkout style entities hold information like:

  • Settings that apply in both light and dark mode, under shared. They include the font, maximum width, checkout padding, button and input sizes and borders, label position and weight, and text sizes for links and messages.
  • Colors for each mode, under modes.light and modes.dark. They include button, input, label, link, focus, and message colors.

Checkout styles apply to the account you're authenticated as. Each account has one checkout style, and your sandbox and live accounts have separate checkout styles.

Dark mode has its own default colors, so checkout is readable in dark mode before you change anything. Updates are partial, so send only the fields that you want to change. Fields that you leave out keep their current value, so to go back to a default, send its default value. Getting styles needs the checkout_settings.read permission, and updating them needs checkout_settings.write.

The Paddle.js theme setting chooses which mode a checkout opens in. It defaults to light.

Checkout styles apply to inline checkout and hosted checkouts. To set the brand color for overlay checkout, use the update overlay checkout style settings operation.
