Countries

Countries describe the countries and territories that Paddle knows about. Each country holds the ISO codes Paddle uses to identify it, the currency used for automatic price conversion, and whether Paddle supports sales to customers there.

Use countries to populate country pickers, validate addresses before you create them, and check where Paddle supports sales before you launch in a new market.

Country entities include:

• The two-letter and three-letter ISO codes for the country, under iso and iso3.
• The formal name in uppercase ASCII characters under name, and a display-ready name under printable_name.
• Whether Paddle requires a postal code in addresses for the country, under uses_postal_code.
• The currency used for automatic price conversion when the customer is in the country, under transaction_currency.
• Whether Paddle supports sales to customers in the country, under allow_sales.
• Whether Paddle holds region data for the country, under has_regions.
• How tax is presented for prices by default, under tax_mode.

Codes that ISO doesn't assign

Most iso and iso3 values are ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 and alpha-3 codes. Paddle uses a small number of codes that ISO doesn't assign, including codes that ISO has withdrawn. Treat both fields as strings from the documented set rather than assuming they're valid ISO codes.

Unsupported countries

allow_sales is false for countries where Paddle can't sell. This typically means a country is restricted by sanctions or policy, uses a withdrawn ISO 3166-1 code, or has no commercial applicability.

allow_sales of true means sales aren't blocked at the country level. Other risk and compliance checks may still prevent an individual sale.

Platform support, not account settings

Countries describe what the Paddle platform supports. They don't describe what's enabled on your account.

payout_currency is the default payout currency for the country. You can set your payout currency in the Paddle dashboard, so it may differ from this default.
