Compliance improvements for Paddle Checkout

For enhanced compliance, we've redesigned the Paddle.com footer and introduced clear wording about upfront and recurring charges.

What's new?

To make it easier to build compliant inline checkout implementations, we've made some changes to the Paddle.com footer and introduced clear wording about upfront and recurring charges.

These changes also apply to the one-page overlay checkout experience.

How it works

Inline checkout lets you build integrated checkout experiences. It works by embedding a frame with Paddle Checkout into your app or website. You display information about items and totals using Paddle.js events, letting the Paddle Checkout frame handle collecting customer information and taking payment.

It's important that customers know who they're buying from, what they're buying, and how much they're paying. Transparency at checkout builds trust, boosting customer confidence and reducing the likelihood of chargebacks. It's also essential for compliance with card network rules and evolving international legislation.

To help you build an inline checkout that's compliant and optimized for conversion, we've made some changes to the Paddle.com footer and introduced clearer wording about upfront and recurring charges.

What's changed?

Illustration showing the bottom part of an inline checkout. It shows a button that says 'Pay $3,600', followed by some text that says 'Pay $3600 now, then pay $3600 monthly. The Paddle.com checkout footer follows. It's more compact than the previous version, with left aligned text and a small Paddle logo.

The latest changes include:

  1. The total to pay is now displayed on the buy or subscribe button.

  2. If recurring, how often it recurs, the total to pay on renewal, and the next renewal date is presented. If a trial, how long the trial lasts is presented, too.

  3. A redesigned footer to let the customer know that Paddle.com is the merchant of record.

How did it look before?

Illustration showing the bottom part of the previous inline checkout. It shows a button that says 'But now', followed by the Paddle.com checkout footer. It's in a large box, with centre aligned text.

The previous inline checkout footer was in a large box under the purchase button. There are no changes to the wording of the Paddle.com merchant of record footer, or the height of the inline checkout frame.

Next steps

This change is available now. You don't need to do anything to get it.

It's a non-breaking change, meaning it doesn't impact existing integrations. The changes don't impact the height of the inline checkout frame.
